Models differ in wavelength, power, session length and how they are worn. Read the manual for the device you actually own, every time, and never carry instructions from one device across to another.
Before you start
- Check the device, the cable and any surface that touches skin for damage.
- Start on clean, dry skin unless your manual says otherwise.
- Take off anything that can increase light sensitivity, and check the guidance on any skincare you use.
- Wear eye protection wherever the manufacturer asks for it, and never look straight at the source.
During a session
- Keep to the time, distance and frequency in your manual.
- Do not run longer sessions hoping to speed something up.
- Stop straight away if you feel unusual heat, pain, stinging, dizziness, or anything that worries you.
- Keep the device dry, and do not use it near water unless the product says it is built for that.
When to ask someone first
Speak to a doctor or another suitably qualified professional before you start if you are sensitive to light, take medication or use products that increase light sensitivity, have an eye condition, have a skin condition under treatment, are pregnant, or are simply unsure whether a device suits you. There is no cost to asking.
Looking after the device
Switch it off and unplug it before cleaning. Use only the methods and materials given in the manual. Store it away from damp, heat, children and pets.
One rule sits above all of these: your manual wins. This page is general. The manual is specific to the device in your hands.
